When I was looking and choosing colors for an upcoming collection, I kept being drawn to The Fiber Seed’s colorway, Stars&Stripes. For some reason I kept clicking back to that color over and over again. For some reason, it had my mind thinking about veterans, wounded warriors and military families that were feeling lonely, hopeless and helpless. This particular color sparked home, community, and support to me. I knew that I needed to knit something to share with military families, particularly those who are working to overcome some sort of injury, whatever the nature of that setback, and to bring a sense of support to the families who are on the journey with them.
I discussed my idea with The Fiber Seed and we collaborated to create the “Stars&Stripes KAL.” I’m excited to share this opportunity with you to not only knit a summery shawl, but to also support our wounded warriors and their families through a donation to The Fisher House. This pattern is a great first shawl, so it would be a good pattern to knit with friends and stretch your knit skills. Have fun having a local KAL and find a military family that would appreciate a small token of appreciation and donate your finished knit to them.
I love playing with Variegated yarns and their co-ordinating colors. These two colors from Three Irish Girls are no exception. They play well together, mixing elements of texture and lace to produce a stunning piece that will see you through a Midsummer’s Night, no matter what your plans entail. Make sure that you block your shawl when you are finished- especially if you choose to use the Three Irish Girls McClellan yarn, a nice soak and block really opens up the eyelet stitches and the resulting drape from the bamboo is breathtaking
